<![CDATA[Increasing Fertility]]>Tue, 18 Feb 2014 16:23:43 GMThttp://ascentialacupuncture.com/blog/increasing-fertilityPicture
Pregnancy comes easily to some couples, but not everyone. Infertility rates are on the rise, and one of the most common things I treat in our office. When you add up all the variables that have to be in perfect alignment it's a miracle anyone actually conceives in the first place. I like to give my patients tools that they can use to take control of their health and to increase their chances of conception. I believe that much of the increased infertility rates have a lot to do with our unhealthy diet.

A common deficiency linked to infertility in both males and females is zinc. Eating a diet full of fish, dark green leafy vegetables, and nuts will help you increase your zinc intake. Another factor in infertility is yeast. Yeast is a fungus that can be difficult to get rid of. Yeast has to feed off a host, in this case your body. It disrupts the endocrine system, your thyroid gland, and your ovaries. It likes to mimic a lot of things trying to hide in your body so it may be difficult to recognize yet, yet a lone combat it. One of the things yeast likes to mimic is estrogen. So if your body has too much yeast, your body thinks it has too much estrogen. To compensate for this your body begins decreasing its estrogen production. If your body thinks you have too much estrogen it will begin decreasing your progesterone levels leaving you with an imbalance of estrogen and progesterone. This is critical because if your body is decreasing progesterone, it can lead to anovulation (not ovulating) or miscarriage.

Diet wise begin cutting our things that feed yeast, this includes dairy and sugar. Now you can still have a little, my rule of thumb is 80/20, 80% of the time keep it out of your diet! You should cut refined sugars and grains like white flour or white rice, and avoid an excess intake of breads and anything corn based.

Here is a protocol to use to help increase your fertility along with regular acupuncture treatments using doTERRA essential oils and supplements.
- GX Assist: take the first 10 days of your cycle: 1-2 capsules 3 times a day.
- PB Assist: take on days 11-14 of your cycle: 1 capsule 3 times a day, then 1 capsule a day until the end of your cycle.
- Phytoestrogen: take 1-2 capsules every day to help eliminate bad estrogens in your body, and balance the good estrogens.
- Clary Calm: Apply this oil to the bottoms of the feet, lower abdomen, and wrists daily to balance hormones and manage mood swings.
- Grapefruit Essential Oil: take 16 drops every morning in water, under the tongue, or in a capsule to help balance progesterone. (When our bodies are under stress cortisol inhibits progesterone production; grapefruit prevents cortisol from blocking progesterone.)
- LifeLong Vitality Pack: take supplements daily as directed on package

<![CDATA[Oil of the Month! ]]>Wed, 05 Feb 2014 15:04:44 GMThttp://ascentialacupuncture.com/blog/oil-of-the-monthPicture
Oregano Essential Oil is popular for its immune boosting benefits and cleansing properties. A great oil to have on hand during the winter months!

Oregano helps to cleanse the air , boost immunity, and give a feeling of security when used aromatically. It is not only immune boosting but it is anti-fungal, anti-viral, and it decreased inflammation. It can be used topically for warts and calluses on the skin. Be careful when using topically though as oregano is a 'hot' oil. If you have sensitive skin add a carrier oil like fractionated coconut oil to avoid sensitivity.
(Word of caution: do not apply oregano directly to the face without a carrier oil)

Another way to take oregano is to put a few drops in a veggie cap to take internally. I often take a veggie cap of 3 drops oregano, 3 drops frankincense, and 4 drops of lemon to prevent colds and flus this time of year. My own personal flu bomb!

Wholesale Price: $24.00 - Learn How

Save 10% this month on Whisper!

This is one of my personal favorites. I use this oil everyday my rubbing one drop onto my wrists and forearm as perfume. Whisper helps to maintain normal hormone levels and create a sense of peace and well-being. It is specifically formulated to blend with your natural scent so no two people wearing Whisper will experience the exact same fragrance!

<![CDATA[Cassia Essential Oil]]>Fri, 13 Dec 2013 20:26:44 GMThttp://ascentialacupuncture.com/blog/cassia-essential-oilPicture
I have loved using my doTERRA essential oils over the past few months for myself and my family and with my patients. These oils are so powerful and beneficial to our health it's such a great tool to have in your own home. Recently I've come to love the oil Cassia, and this month Cassia Oil is being offered at 10% off.
Cassia is a close relative of cinnamon and it noted for its wonderful fragrance. Mentioned in the Old Testament, cassia has literally been used for thousands of years both for its fragrance and calming properties.

Cassia Properties: antiviral, antifungal, and antibacterial.
It has been known to help with colds, diarrhea, nausea, infections, the common cold, gas (flatulence), and kidney complaints, along with benefiting emotional health and calming anxiety.

A 2009 report in Pennington Nutrition Series found that the use of cassia bark oil is beneficial in treating type 2 diabetes. Cassia cinnamon extracts had significant anti-diabetic effects in both animal trials and in human trials using people with type 2 diabetes. The research found that concentrated blood glucose levels were significantly decreased, and that their levels of total cholesterol were significantly lower.

This wonderful oil has so many benefits to be used aromatically, topically, and internally for our health. To purchase a bottle of cassia oil during the month of December for 10% off visit mydoterra.com/ascentialcu. <![CDATA[Xylitol - A Safe Sugar Alternative?]]>Fri, 13 Dec 2013 19:47:55 GMThttp://ascentialacupuncture.com/blog/xylitol-a-safe-sugar-alternativePicture
My husband was surfing the web today and came across an article from natural news on a sugar substitute called xylitol. He forwarded it to me asking my thoughts on it. Now normally I love the natural news website but as sometimes happen I feel they are not giving you all the information.

Here's a link to the article that discusses xylitol being a safe alternative to sugar.

What is Xylitol?

Xylitol is a sugar alcohol that is extracted from the bark of birch trees and also corn. Well first red flag here is corn. Corn is what I consider as one of the Super Evil Foods. Corn does not digest in your system it holds no nutritional value, and majority of the corn produced in the US is from a GMO (genetically modified) seed. That was just my first red flag.

Here is my second: in 2008 Natural News produced an article that stated
"Xylitol is a processed sugar. After being hydrogenated and having toxic chemicals
added to xylan from corn or other plant material, and then removed, you get xylitol."

It is a processed sugar that is made produced using sulfuric acid, calcium oxide, phosphoric acid and active charcoal. Nothing in that sentence screams out natural sugar to me. If something is made with man made chemicals to produce a product it no longer is a "natural" product.
Xylitol is known to have adverse effect on the body's digestive tract causing severe cramping, and diarrhea. A product like this used for an extensive period of time can completely change your gut flora and when your digestion suffers, the rest of your body will quickly begin showing symptoms of illness as well.

What would I recommend?

I would recommend regular sugar in the raw. Sugar in the raw is healthy then the refined sugar and will have less negative effects on your body than the bleached white powder you're used to seeing. Great alternatives though are stevia, agave, dates, honey, and coconut sugar. These are true natural alternatives to sugar to curb that sweet craving. I personally use raw sugar, stevia, agave, and honey in my home when I'm adding sweetener or even cooking with it.

<![CDATA[Flavor your water]]>Tue, 03 Sep 2013 14:48:30 GMThttp://ascentialacupuncture.com/blog/flavor-your-waterPicture
We all know that water is important for our health and that we should be drinking 6-8 glasses a day. You've heard this your whole life and it's true! You really should be drinking 6-8 glasses of water a day and here is why.
Water helps in regulating metabolism and detoxifying your body which helps you lose weight. It aides in digestion and stops constipation, improves your immune function, prevents bad breath, reduces the risk of headaches, migraines, and cancer, regulates your bodys temperature, promotes healthy skin, keeps the joint moist to reduce inflammation and pain associated with arthritis, improves cardiovascular health, and it boost your energy!

That's just a little of what water can do for you so if you're thinking wow I probably should be drinking more water but I really just don't like it then here are some tips to help you out. I often hear people telling me "but I don't like the taste of water". Let's be honest water doesn't really have a taste it's water it's a cool refreshing liquid but it doesn't have a flavor. Often times people can't overcome that little hurdle when trying to consume more water so I would like to encourage you to use these methods for naturally flavoring your water rather than opting for the water flavoring packets you find in the store. Those flavoring packets often contain added sugars which negate all the good you are striving for while drinking your glasses of water during the day.

If you absolutely need some extra flavor try adding your favorite berries to your glass or a couple slices of cucumber. You can even put in some lime and mint. By using these natural fresh options you get to add a little flavor to your water without any added sugars or fillers that you find in flavoring packets - and you get the added benefit of the nutrients found in these berries and herbs!

I love water and I crave it but I wasn't always this way. I forced myself at first but it does get easier I promise! Once you start benefiting from regular water consumption you'll no longer be reaching for sugary juices and sodas that are preventing you from fully hydrating your body. Keep it up, you can do this!
